Assisted & Group Living Law
Construction Law & Policy
Michelle began her career as a litigator, including for one of the largest privately-held multi-family developers in the U.S. Her development litigation experience includes construction defects, insurance coverage, and personal injury actions. She then began working on the policy level to help national and local governments determine strategy and enact legislation and regulations related to the built environment, such as construction, spatial planning, informal settlements, urban resilience, and property rights. Having also been an advocate for human rights internationally, Michelle became interested in the intersection of civil rights and land use in the form of fair housing law. She uses her unique background to help group home developers and operators navigate the complicated web of restrictions so as to create housing opportunities and integrated communities. In addition to representing clients in interactions with government agencies and others, Michelle has also been an important policy voice for the industry, such as through legislative advocacy and development of place-appropriate design standards.
